The group of Prof. Günther regularly offers Bachelor and Master theses in visualization and computer graphics. For an overview of available topics contact tobias.guenther@fau.de, including the following information:
- Briefly mention which areas of computer graphics you are interested in.
- Give a short overview of the graphics-related courses you have attended in the past.
We then get back to you shortly to schedule a meeting and go over the available topics together.

Choosing the right topic is difficult, even when you already know that you want to work on visualization and/or computer graphics. To get a comprehensive overview of all available topics, it is strongly recommended that you get in touch with all professors, working in the realm of Visual Computing, including:
During the Thesis
Thesis Seminar
The thesis seminar is a platform for students to exchange with peers about ongoing thesis projects and to receive feedback from other professors.
- Bachelor students give one interim presentation (20 minutes talk + 10 minutes questions) about 2-3 months after the start of their thesis.
- Master students give two interim presentations (20 minutes talk + 10 minutes questions) about 1 month and 3-4 months after the start of their thesis.
- Every student must attend the seminar 10 times.
Regular Meetings
Bachelor and Master students are closely supervised with a one-hour meeting each week. In return, we expect diligence and continuous progress.
After the Thesis
Final Presentation
The thesis is concluded with a final presentation (20 minutes talk + 10 minutes questions) in the Graphics Colloquium, which takes place no later than one months after the submission of the thesis.
Grading
The thesis is graded shortly after the final presentation and is evaluated based on the following criteria.
- Preparation and Implementation
- Difficulty of the topic
- Technical expertise of the student
- Completeness of the implementation
- Goals fulfilled or even exceeded
- Quality and Creativity
- Quality of the obtained results is high
- Student proposed own ideas and was creative when looking for solutions to problems
- Independent Work
- Amount of help needed to fix bugs
- Independent thinking and time management
- Scientific Work
- Comprehensive literature review
- Correctness of statements and equations
- Correctness of citations
- Thorough evaluation of the approach
- Writing
- Orthographic and grammatical errors
- Structure of the report
- Clear train of thought and motivation of choices
- Helpful illustrations
